West Bengal: Bengal Police registered an FIR against the NIA officers who went to arrest the accused in the Bhupati Nagar blast case under serious sections including sexual harassment, NIA approached the High Court.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team that had gone to arrest the accused in the Bhupati Nagar blast case of West Bengal was attacked. Now Bengal Police has registered an FIR against the NIA officers under other serious sections including sexual harassment. After which he approached the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday appealing for dismissal of the FIR.

NIA lawyer Arun Kumar Mohanty said that Justice Jai Sengupta allowed the NIA to file the application and go to his court in the post-lunch session of the day. The petition has also sought interim protection from any punitive action being taken against the NIA officers by the West Bengal Police.

Three people died in the explosion
On Saturday, a mob allegedly attacked NIA officers in Bhupatinagar in East Midnapore district, in which one officer was injured. These officers were returning after arresting two persons in connection with a blast case of December 2022. Three people lost their lives in this explosion that took place in December 2022.

Accusations against NIA officers
An FIR was registered based on the complaint of NIA officials in Bhupatinagar. Besides, a case was also initiated against NIA officials on the complaint of some villagers. These villagers have accused the NIA officers of theft and outraging the modesty of a woman.
