BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh, who had gone to help flood-affected people in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, were attacked by some people. Regarding this attack, Mamata Banerjee said that the MPs were attacked by locals at the place where they had gone to provide relief. Meanwhile, BJP MP Khagen Murmu refuted CM Mamata Banerjee’s claim, saying that the attacking mob consisted of TMC members.
Videos of the attack on the two BJP leaders and photos of Murmu covered in blood are rapidly going viral on social media. Describing the attack as a “law and order situation,” Mamata Banerjee said, “I don’t want to politicize this, but if you take 30-40 vehicles to a village that has lost everything, what can you expect?”
Reacting to Banerjee’s statement
Murmu, who is hospitalized, asked how large a convoy four MPs and the same number of MLAs can carry. Speaking to the media, Murmu said, “How many vehicles were there? Each vehicle carried an MP or MLA, and some people from our district were also with them. So how many vehicles could there have been? They saw a convoy of 40 vehicles, but they didn’t see the extent of the bloodshed.”
TMC Attackers
Recounting the attack, the BJP leader said that the mob suddenly attacked them where they had gone to seek help. The leader said that the mob was shouting, “We are from the TMC and we are Didi’s men.” The MP also said that they were saying, “Why are you here, if we are here? The BJP has no business here.” He said that most leaders fled, frightened by the mob, but Murmu and Ghosh were unable to escape.
The MP said that the mob attacked, pushed, and beat them. He said that the mob threw stones at their car, breaking the front and rear windows. He stated that a full account of the attack is available.
Doctors advised him to rest for a few months.
The MP stated that his injuries will take time to heal. Doctors have said he will need a few more months. He explained that a stone thrown inside his car hit his cheekbone, breaking it. Doctors said he could have lost an eye in the incident.
The attack on BJP leaders has sparked a political uproar in Bengal. The incident has become a bone of contention between the TMC and the BJP. Although two people have been arrested for the attack, the controversy continues.
