Cyclone Remal has caused such devastation in West Bengal that so far 6 people have died and more than 29 thousand houses have been damaged. The most impact of the storm has been seen in the southern coastal areas. Apart from this, more than 2140 trees were uprooted in different parts of the state and about 1700 electricity poles fell.
The information that has come out so far about the cyclone states that 27000 houses have been partially damaged and 2500 have been completely damaged. If officials are to be believed, these figures may increase in the next one or two days because there are many areas where the damage caused by cyclone Remal is being assessed.
The death toll may increase
According to the PTI report, data is being collected from many districts regarding the damage caused by cyclone Remal and the loss is being calculated. The administration has shifted more than 2 lakh people to 1438 safe shelters. Food is being delivered to these shelters through 341 kitchens.
The areas where Cyclone Remal has caused the most damage include Kakdwip, Namkhana, Sagar Island, Diamond Harbor, Fraserganj, Bakkhali and Mandarmoni. The cyclone caused minor cracks in the embankments, which were repaired immediately. However, no information has been received about the embankment breaking so far. Whatever information came, they were minor and were repaired immediately.
Maximum damage in coastal areas
So far six people have lost their lives due to the cyclone. One in Kolkata, two women in South 24 Parganas district, one in North 24 Parganas district and a father-son in East Medinipur have died. The maximum damage due to the cyclone has been seen in coastal areas.
Cyclone Remal hit the coastal areas of West Bengal on Sunday night. With its impact, strong winds as well as heavy rains were also seen in many areas. In view of the cyclone, many NDRF teams have been deployed. The impact of cyclone Ramal was felt in West Bengal as well as Bangladesh.
Destroyed beaches in Bangladesh
The cyclone devastated the beaches of Bangladesh, destroyed thousands of houses, broke sea walls, and flooded many villages and towns in the southwestern coastal areas. So far 10 people have died due to the storm in Bangladesh, while the storm has completely damaged more than 35 lakh houses and affected more than 37.5 lakh people.
