West Bengal: Kolkata Metro officials decided to intensify the ‘anti-suicide’ campaign to prevent increasing incidents of suicide on platforms

Kolkata Metro officials in West Bengal have taken steps to prevent increasing suicide incidents on platforms. The Metro administration has decided to speed up the ‘anti-suicide’ campaign. The aim of this campaign is to prevent passengers from suicide and ensure their safety on the platform.

Colorful banners installed

Kolkata Metro officials have installed colorful banners at various stations, appealing to passengers not to go to the edge of the platform. Also, passengers are being constantly warned not to cross the yellow line. This initiative is an effort to prioritize passenger safety, so that any untoward incident can be avoided.

The incident took place at Chandni Chowk station

This campaign has been started after a tragic incident. In fact, on January 6, a man committed suicide at Chandni Chowk station of Kolkata Metro, due to which metro services were affected. Metro train services were disrupted for more than two hours on the Kshineshwar-New Garia corridor (Blue Line), causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers. Due to this incident, the metro administration decided to further tighten its security measures.

Statement of Kolkata Metro official

A senior Kolkata Metro official said, “We are intensifying the ‘anti-suicide’ campaign by putting colourful banners on the track walls of various stations on the Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor. These banners have been strategically placed in such a way that people can easily see them from the platforms. We have also increased the frequency of announcements on the public address system on platforms, urging people not to go near the edge of the platform and not to cross the yellow line.”
