Even though there is still a lot of time for the assembly elections in West Bengal, the political chessboard has started to be laid out from now. BJP and Trinamool Congress are busy with their respective preparations. Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari’s eyes are set on CM Mamata Banerjee’s seat. On the other hand, if we talk about TMC, all the leaders are keeping an eye on BJP’s stronghold Nandigram.
If we talk about BJP insiders, then Shubhendu Adhikari has already started his preparations for Bhawanipur. For this, along with strengthening the booth level, a “special survey” has been started to find out the weaknesses. Through this, it is being found out where the Chief Minister’s party made a lead in 2021 and where it lagged behind.
Shubhendu openly standing against Mamata
BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari’s stand is clear that now Mamata Banerjee cannot have an open say in Bhawanipur. We are collecting the data of every voter. Along with this, we are also considering opening an office in the constituency.
The uproar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar had not yet subsided, when BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari had given a statement about the same happening in Bengal. He had warned that this time thousands of fake names will be removed. We will ensure that this time fake votes are not cast here.
TMC also does not want to make any preparations
Talking about the Trinamool Congress, it is quietly but steadily changing its strategy in Nandigram, where Mamata had won by a narrow margin of 1,956 votes in the 2021 contest between Mamata and Adhikari, the result of which is still pending in the court. Party insiders said that top party leaders, including TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, have started frequent meetings with district leaders and block-level organizers to “strengthen the ground” in Adhikari’s area.
A TMC leader said, “In the last few weeks, top party leaders like Abhishek Banerjee have met leaders from several organisational districts, including Tamluk. They have made it clear that a separate, focused strategy is needed for Nandigram. A special meeting will be called soon with booth presidents and grassroots leaders.”
The battle of Bengal is not easy
According to political analysts, “It is no longer just Bhawanipur vs Nandigram. It is Mamata vs Shubhendu and Abhishek vs Shubhendu. Both sides want to prove that each other’s stronghold is not impenetrable.” For now, all eyes are on TMC’s next move in Nandigram. According to political analysts, the upcoming assembly elections are going to be a tough competition for both the political parties.
