Amidst the ongoing uproar over the Sandeshkhali incident in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, another case has gained momentum. Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari is stuck over the matter. Actually, Shubhendu Adhikar is accused of calling a Sikh IPS officer ‘Khalistani’ during the protest against Sandeshkhali. On this the IPS officer got angry at BJP MLA Shubhendu Adhikari. Bengal Police is talking about taking action in the matter. The statement of ADG of South Bengal has come out regarding this.
A Sikh IPS officer deployed in Dhamkhali to stop senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subhendu Adhikari from visiting the restive Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal on Tuesday criticized BJP workers for allegedly calling him ‘Khalistani’. Condemned. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, who was accompanying Shubhendu Adhikari, claimed that the police officers were not performing their duties and rejected the allegation that BJP supporters called him a Khalistani.
IPS officer Jaspreet Singh was heard asking BJP workers, just because I am wearing a turban, you people are calling me Khalistani? Is this what you learned? If a police officer wears a turban and performs his duty honestly, does he become a Khalistani for you? You should be ashamed. Jaspreet Singh said that I am just doing my work. Did I say anything about your religion? Why are you speaking about my religion?
Sikh community demonstrated
Later, members of the Sikh community demonstrated outside the BJP state headquarters at Muralidhar Lane in Kolkata to protest against the alleged ‘Khalistani’ jibe. He also demonstrated in Asansol. ADG and IGP (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar claimed that it was a ‘deliberate and malicious act’ aimed at insulting the religious sentiments of a community.
Shubhendu Adhikari accused
Whereas Mamata Banerjee government said that because someone is wearing a turban, you cannot call that person Khalistani. This is completely unacceptable. If needed we will take legal action. Trinamool Congress also posted a video on Twitter, in which it was alleged that Shubhendu Adhikari had used the word ‘Khalistani’ for the police officer. West Bengal Police also claimed that the opposition leader called the Sikh IPS officer a Khalistani.
He wrote on X, Angered by this sequence of events, we, the West Bengal Police fraternity, are sharing this video in which one of our officers was called ‘Khalistani’ by the state opposition leader. His fault is that he is a proud Sikh and also a capable police officer who was trying to enforce the law.
Shubhendu Adhikari denied the allegations
Shubhendu Adhikari denied these allegations and accused TMC of trying to divert attention from the Sandeshkhali developments. He said that the allegations against me are baseless. It was the police officers who were instigating the supporters. If TMC is so concerned about minorities, then they should first take action against their councilor Ananya Banerjee, who has made objectionable remarks against the Christian community.
“We strongly oppose this”
ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar said, “As you all know we had a police force to enforce Section 144 in Dhamakhali on Tuesday morning. It was led by IPS Jaspeet Singh, SSP Intelligence Branch. There were many MLAs including Bengal opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari. There was an argument with the police officer in Dhamakhali, during which Subhendu Adhikari called the police officer a Khalistani, which does not befit a political leader. We strongly oppose this. This serious matter We will take legal action against him for his comments.”
Agnimitra Pal also accused
West Bengal Police, while sharing the video of the incident on ‘X’, said that strict legal action will be taken against Subhendu Adhikari. At the same time, TMC and other parties have become attackers on BJP. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sikh organization SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) and Congress have criticized BJP. Earlier, Chief Minister Banerjee accused Bengal BJP leader Agnimitra Pal of calling a turban-wearing police officer a so-called Khalistani when she was stopped from going to Sandeshkhali.
While sharing the video on ‘X’, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Agnimitra Pal attacked a turbaned IPS officer who had come to block the blockade in Sandeshkhali by calling him ‘Khalistani’. He asked, does BJP think that people who wear turban are Khalistani? His divisive politics is crossing constitutional limits this time. On the other hand, people of Sikh community protested in Kolkata and Asansol regarding the incident.
