Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. As soon as the bill was introduced, the opposition started a huge uproar, however, the bill was introduced amidst this noise. As soon as the Parliament session began, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla invited Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to introduce the bill. Amidst the noise of the opposition, Rijiju made it clear that the central government is not going to interfere in any religious institution, the opposition was misleading the country for a long time.
Taking a tough stand against the functioning of the Waqf Board today, Rijiju claimed, “If we had not introduced the bill, the Parliament House would also have been claimed as Waqf property.” While introducing the bill, he also told who will be in the Waqf Board and what is changing in the Waqf?
Minister gave example of property dispute
During his speech, Rijiju gave example of a property dispute and said, “A case going on in Delhi since 1970 was related to many properties including CGO Complex and Parliament House. Delhi Waqf Board had claimed these to be Waqf properties. The matter was in court, but at that time UPA government had denotified 123 properties and handed them over to Waqf Board. If we had not introduced this amendment today, then the Parliament House in which we are sitting could also have been claimed to be Waqf property. If PM Modi government had not come to power, many properties would have been denotified.”
Who will be in Waqf Board?
Kiren Rijiju said that there will be 10 Muslim members in the board, in which 2 Muslim women members are mandatory, 2 retired judges, 3 MPs, one secretary level officer, people from Shia and Sunni, Bohra and Aagakhani community will be included, backward Muslims will also be included in it. This board will not include more than 4 non-Muslims.
What is changing in Waqf?
Through this bill, 2 non-Muslim members are being included in the Waqf Board, which are not there now. Also, now the DM will be able to order a survey of Waqf land. If any land is disputed, then the decision of the tribunal can be challenged in the court. Also, now Waqf boards will not be able to take donations through Waqf By User.
Will the Waqf Amendment Bill get approval? What will be the benefit to BJP if it is passed in the House?
The Waqf Bill has been presented in the Lok Sabha today and discussions are going on on it. The NDA has got the support of its allies and the BJP-led NDA government is trying to get this bill passed in the House at any cost. If this bill is passed in the House, what will be the benefit to the BJP? The initiative to amend the Waqf Act of 1995 and repeal the Muslim Waqf Act of 1923 is actually an important part of the ideological agenda for the BJP’s NDA government like repealing Article 370 and building the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Why is it necessary to pass the Waqf Bill?
Passing the Waqf Bill is considered to be the biggest step of the Modi government’s third term so far. As soon as it took power for its third term, the Modi government started working rapidly to deal with the Waqf laws and today efforts are being made to get this bill passed at all costs. After the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Parliament, the uncontrolled powers of the Waqf Board will be reduced and the Waqf Board will not be able to declare ownership over any property without verification.
Benefit to BJP in elections
Let us understand what will be the benefit to BJP after the passing of the Waqf Amendment Bill… After the victory in the Delhi elections this year, now assembly elections are to be held in Bihar and the entire pitch of this election will shift from caste to religion and BJP has a special opportunity to cash in on this so that Muslim votes come to the account of NDA. The biggest thing is that Nitish Kumar’s JDU has also given its consent regarding the Waqf Bill.
Waqf will be converted into votes
Second benefit: After Bihar, assembly elections will be held in West Bengal, Assam and then UP in which BJP will get direct benefit. The third benefit will be that the poor Muslims harassed by the Waqf Board
will have a soft corner for BJP and which will convert into votes. BJP is seen getting direct benefit from the Waqf Bill in the upcoming elections. Apart from this, after the successful construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and Maha Kumbh, BJP will become stronger on the Hindutva pitch. The more the opposition and Muslims interact, the more Hindu voters will come with BJP.
