Dubai: Yemen’s Houthi rebels have once again targeted a commercial ship passing through the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis targeted the ship and detonated explosions. This caused the ship to catch fire. It is being told that this incident is probably the latest case of Houthi rebels targeting a ship passing through this route. Officials gave this information on Saturday. This attack has been carried out after the sinking of the ship ‘Tooter’ in an attack by Houthi rebels this week. There has been no damage to the ship or any crew member in the latest attack.
The sinking of ‘Tooter’ makes it clear that attacks by Iran-backed Houthis on ships in the important sea route have intensified amid the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, US officials have ordered the aircraft carrier ‘USS Dwight D. Eisenhower’, which led the US retaliation in response to the alleged Houthi attacks, to return.
Air strike took place at night
The Houthis attacked this ship passing through the Gulf of Aden late at night. Fortunately, no major damage was caused. The UK Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO) said that the captain of the ship that was targeted late Friday night “saw explosions near the ship”. The UKMTO said that the crew members are safe and the ship is heading towards the nearest port. However, it did not give information whether the ship has suffered any damage or not.
